to four, boosting acquisitions, and focusing his attention on customers. As a result, Wipro’s stock has surged about 70% since he came onboard.

As a multinational corporation, India-based Wipro provides information technology, consulting, and business process services. The company also works as a medical equipment manufacturer. Back in 2009, medical technologies and services giant GE Healthcare merged its healthcare business unit in India with Wipro. As part of the deal, GE holds a 51% stake in Wipro GE Healthcare (WGE), while Wipro holds the remainder. WGE distributes 85% of GE’s various healthcare and medical diagnostic products in India, and also incorporates the Life Sciences, Medical Diagnostics, and Medical Systems divisions.

WGE has also worked to help expand healthcare throughout India. In Assam, for example, WGE provided the technology for a project carried out by the National Health Mission, in collaboration with the state’s department of health and family welfare, that provides free diagnostic CT Scan services for Assam residents.

Now WGE has announced a partnership with Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) that will provide opportunities for research scholars to build and further improve the innovation ecosystem. As part of the collaboration, WGE will also provide financial aid and industrial expertise to chosen masters’ (MS) research scholars at IITM.

“The world of healthcare is getting transformed through use of digital technologies which can address some of the toughest healthcare challenges. This transformation can be accelerated by building a collaborative ecosystem of industry and academia partners. Through this partnership with IITM, we wish to mentor the students and their ideas, and help them develop affordable healthcare solutions for those in need across the country,” said Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro GE Healthcare.

In addition, the research scholars will be offered a nine-month internship opportunity at WGE where they will be able to participate in student hackathons, guest lectures, product teardowns, and lecture demonstrations.
