Profile

As the leader of CRA's global Life Sciences practice, Dr. Bell’s business consulting work focuses on the economics of competitive strategy. He works with clients to build sustainable competitive advantages for products, franchises, and brands. These projects have focused on opportunity assessment, product launch, pricing and positioning, marketing strategy, channel management, and resource optimization issues. Dr. Bell has led and consulted projects concerning licensing and valuation, game theory and competitive strategy, capital budgeting and real options, and cost-benefit analyses. Immuno-oncology, rare disease therapeutics, cell and gene therapies, and the relationship among pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and medtech areas of focus. As an expert witness, Dr. Bell frequently testifies on damages in intellectual property, finance, and antitrust litigation in courts and arbitration proceedings in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Recent expert witness engagements have included assessments of commercially reasonable efforts regarding collaborations and asset purchases in the life sciences industries, including the use of contingent value rights. Dr. Bell brings his experience as a Chartered Professional Accountant in Canada and his expertise as a Master of Business Administration and Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University, where he specialized in strategy and international business, to bear on consulting projects.
